A journey through time: The history of Orumba North LGA

The history of Orumba North Local Government Area (LGA) in Anambra State, Nigeria can be traced back to the pre-colonial era. The area was originally inhabited by the Igbo people, who were a group of ethnic communities that shared a common language and culture.

19th Century

In the 19th century, the area came under the control of the British colonial government. The British established a number of administrative centers in the area, including the town of Ajali, which became the headquarters of Orumba North LGA. Orumba North LGA is a vibrant and dynamic community with a rich history. The people of Orumba North are proud of their heritage and they are committed to building a better future for their community.

After Independence

After independence in 1960, Orumba North LGA became part of Anambra State. The LGA has continued to develop over the years, and it is now a major agricultural and industrial center in Anambra State.

Historic Events

1886: The British establish a colonial administrative center in Ajali. 1960: Orumba North LGA becomes part of Anambra State after Nigeria gains independence. 1991: Orumba North and Orumba South LGAs are created from the former Orumba LGA. 2006: The population of Orumba North LGA is estimated to be 240,000 people. 2023: Engr. Ogochukwu Ekwueme is appointed chairman of the Transition Committee for Orumba North LGA.
